Tips On How We Can Help Save The Environment

These are all hot topics nowadays! It is mostly left up to the politicians to decide what steps
the world should take to prevent disaster, but a lot of people at starting to think that maybe they're not doing enough on their part
to help save the environment.
But what can I do?
I'm glad you asked! There is actually a few easy and inexpensive things that we can all do in our everyday lives in order to help
save our precious planet. A lot of these tips will actually help you save on energy costs too!
Try to follow at least some of these tips to conserve energy, save water, reduce waste and emissions. It's so easy!

Turn off electrical appliances like TV, computer, big lamps at them mains if possible, or unplug.
Leaving them on standby still drains energy!
Air-Con tempDo not set your air condition to temperatures below 20°C on hot days. It is an impossible task.
Use Energy Efficient Lightbulbs!
They are more expensive, but lasts up to 10 times longer!
Donate items you no longer need to charity or have a garage sale instead of binning them.
The 3R'sRemember the 3 r's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Turn off taps when not in use, e.g. when brushing your teeth or shaving.
Take shorter showers!
Lower fridge/freezer tempSet your fridge temperature to about 5°C, and your freezer to -15°C
Avoid tumble dryers - dry clothes naturally
Turn off your home computerinstead of using stand-by if you won't use it for a while.
Keep a jug of water in the fridge so you don't have to let the tap run to get cold water.
Chemicals will affect the water.
Recycle when possible
Avoid products that are over-packaged
Bring a reusable bag to the supermarket!
Only heat as much water as you need
Beware of chemicalsConsider the amount of cleaning fluids flushed down the toilet.
Use heavy curtains in a drought to block the sun out.
Buy used stuffNot everything you buy have to be brand new. You can buy quality stuff used.
Turn down the temperature of your water heater.
Turn down your central heatingthermostat to between 18°C and 22°C, or even just a little.
Stop receiving junk mailLet's face it. You don't even want this stuff in your mail box AND it is bad for the environment.

Walk or ride your bike for work!Combine excercise and transport!
Public transportUse public transport or share a car to work.
Turn off your car engineif in a traffic jam or are standing still for more than 2 minutes.
Slow down!Don't drive too fast, accellerate or break down too quickly as it will dramatically increase exhaust emissions.
Ensure your tyres are filled to the maximum recommended air pressure.
Leave the carat home one day every week — ifeveryone did this it could make a huge difference.
Use Recycled paper
Print or Copy on both sides of paper
Use E-Mailinstead of sending paper letters/memos.
Use discarded paper for scrap paper
Cut down on printingby at least one time a day. Think of whether you actually need to print this document. Maybe e-mailing it would do?

Turn off/down your water heater when you are going away for a while.
Pay for carbon offsetsConsider paying for your emissions when flying air planes
Unplug all electrical equipment that does not have to be on!
